Bryan, I, Eron, and Kim all made it to Paris. We were so excited to be there. We loved the location of our Hotel. Right out side our window you could see the walking street filled a fresh market. Every morning for breakfast we went to the closest patisery to buy a pan a chocolate, baget, meat and cheese. The food was so awesome. Our first day in Paris we went to the
D'Orsay museum. This museum is in an old train station, so it is large and beautiful. Then we went to the Hotel Invalides. Napoleons tomb was there as well as a huge collection of weponary and suits of amor. Our first night in Paris Bryan and I took a boat ride down the Sienne. I loved it! Our second day in Paris we climbed to the top of Notre Dame. The views were incredible. We saw the stained glass windows of Saint-Chapelle that tell the story of the Bible. We went to the Conciergerie, which was the prison for the aristocracy during the French Revolution. Mary-Antionette was held
their before her death. we also went the the Louvre, saw about a fourth of the museum, it is huge. Bryan's favorite part I think was when we walked down the Champs Elysee. He could just picture the bikers making the loop during the Tour de France. We climbed to the top of the Arc D'Triumph. We climbed a lot of stairs that day. My legs were dead. Sunday we went to the Rodin Museum to see the original "Thinking Man" as well as the Orangerie Museum so Eron could see "Water Lillies" by Monet. We took a metro and climbed a ton more stairs to see Savre-Coeur, the heart of Christ. I think the Pope comes to
this church. This area of Paris was very artisty. Many artists displaying their work. Monday we left rented a car and left Paris to see of the French countryside. Our first stop was at Omaha Beach in Normandy were the Americans landed to help end WWII. This was the most memorable part of our trip. We had never visited a military cemetary before. This was a very humbling and emotional experience for me. What courage those young soldiers had to have to scale the cliffs and attach the Germans standing guard. We saw the bunkers the
Germans had spent several years building. It was a very cold, but remarkable day. We spent that night in a small, quaint town called Honfleur. Leaving Honfleur we headed to Mont St. Michelle. This is a beautiful abby built on a small island, that can be reached at certain times of the year on foot because of the sand bar at low tide. Eron and Bryan really got into character, they tried to pray like the monks. The Abby has grown into a small village on the island. Really neat place. We stayed in Chinon at the Hotel Gargangeua. Coll hotel built in midevil times. We ate the hotel where the owners of the hotel were also the chefs. Great food. We toured two chateaus the next day. Chambord - a hunting lodge used by royals. It had the most unique staircases. The other was Chateau de Chenonceau, the ladies chateau buile on the river Cher in the 16th century. It was my favorite. We had a fabulous french dinner in Chinon. Bryan and Kim had the best steak with this delicious cherry sauce. On our way back to Paris we
stopped at Versailles. Versailles was over the top. Bryan was disgusted with it's opulence. Everything was covered in gold or marble. No wonder the french revolted. We rented a golf cart to see the gardens and smaller chateaus. It was another cold day, but we still had a lot of fun cruising around in our golf cart. We finally made it to the top of the Eiffle Tower our second to last night in Paris. The views were breathtaking. Our last day we spent shopping, of course we found a bike shop. We enjoyed just wondering the streets of Paris. Looking back, it is hard to believe we were even there. This was
the first, hopefully, of many trips to come.
